That Secret Place

Description

This is why I haven't been putting up new art for a while. :meow: I've been working on this for school. The assignment is an imagined place with lots of detail. It's no place in particular, I just made this up as I went along. ^^; That tree bark almost killed me, or at least nearly gave me carpal tunnel, but it's finally done! :faint:

Fuzzyness because my scanner is dead, this is a photo taken with a camera I inherited that is probably older than I am.

EDIT; Rendered a bit to make it sharper.

-Constructive criticism welcome!-

Overall I think there are a lot of things in this piece that are working quite well. There's a nice soft and consistent style to it which gives it a slight sense of atmosphere. On top of that, the texturing is nice and adds a sense of gravity to the artwork. On top of that, I like how objects become ;ess detailed the farther away they are, there's a relatively good sens of atmospheric perspective.

I do feel that the composition and arrangement of elements good be better. The circle of rocks the burnt out fire have nice rendering on them and could serve as a great focal point, but I feel it could be moved more to the right to better serve the rule of thirds. And on top of that, you could adjust the setting to frame this focal point and direct the eye around the image. It may also help to have more contrast.

Overall I think this is a really good effort you've made. It could also help to maybe work on the texture of the moss, but other then what I've mentioned, I think this piece really works. The perspective is very well done, and the rendering is both enjoyable and consistent. It's nice to see people taking on more realistic styles.

And on a side note, I really like the carving on the tree root detail, it feels like there's a story there.
